Chargers & Maintainers

Smart battery chargers and maintainers to keep your 12V batteries topped off and healthy.

A quality smart charger is one of the best investments you can make in extending your battery's life. Modern smart chargers detect battery type, temperature, and state of charge automatically, then apply the correct multi-stage charging profile — bulk, absorption, float, and equalization — to top off the battery without overcharging it. They also include desulfation modes that can revive neglected lead-acid batteries that would otherwise be headed for the recycler. For lithium batteries, a charger with a dedicated LiFePO4 profile is essential since the charging voltages differ from lead-acid.

Chargers & Maintainers Buyer's Guide

What amperage do you need?

Rule of thumb: charger amperage should be 10–20% of your battery's amp-hour capacity. A 100Ah battery is happy with a 10–20A charger. Smaller (1–5A) chargers are fine for maintenance and trickle charging during storage but will take days to fully recharge a depleted battery.

Lithium compatibility

If you have or might add LiFePO4 batteries, buy a charger that explicitly supports them. NOCO Genius and several YONHAN models include lithium profiles. Older chargers built only for flooded or AGM batteries can damage lithium cells by overcharging.

Marine/onboard chargers

Boats with multiple battery banks benefit from multi-bank onboard chargers (ProMariner ProSport, NOCO GENPRO) that charge each bank independently and stay permanently mounted. They cost more than portable chargers but eliminate the hassle of managing multiple chargers and connections.
